blog.com mini-contest

I'm having a mini-contest at my blog.com weblog (which only has movie reviews) -- andrew.blog.com to give away an email address where the first person to email gets an invite code.

I'm not sure how much longer they're in beta, but they've got a pretty good name, so I bet it'll be popular.

In recent months/years things have been changing. My carefully constructed glass fantasy world where everything's perfect and nothing goes wrong is starting to crack! It's a damn shame too! Everything's been relatively fine in the past, and it's easy to pretend -- "that window isn't cracked!!!"

Maybe fantasy lands aren't meant to withstand the test of time.

Fahrenheit 9/11

Just came from Fahrenheit 9/11. It was one of the most provocative films I've ever seen, if not the most, and I found it very entertaining and to a small degree eye-opening. I thought the movie raised a lot of interesting points but I don't blindly agree or believe all of it. Much like in Bowling for Columbine when Moore made Canada look more amazing than it is, he must have exaggerated in this movie also in the same way to make his point.

I'm not going to rate this documentary with a true x out of 10 score. Looking at the Internet Movie Database most people either gave it a 10/10 or a 1/10. US voters liked it the least and non-US voters liked it the most. Also old people didn't like it as much as younger. Based on the 6.2/10 avg on the IMDB I voted a 9/10 to pull the avg upward because I think it deserves more, but what exactly I'm not sure.

Yay Friday. Going to See Fahrenheit 9/11 tonight with a slew of people. Originally people were going to go to the Turkey Festival in Strathroy, but now that's tomorrow. I plan to try to continue on the trend of turkeynappings that happened last year (they were returned). Although according to concrete reports they are MURDERED afterwards, so isn't wisking them away to safety the morally prudent thing to do? I think so!

New Loblaws' opening day a disaster!

A new loblaws owned store has opened near downtown London. It's called The Real Canadian Superstore, of all things to call it. It's supposed to be a Loblaws meets Costco, but it was a bit disappointing when I went on opening day -- It wasn't very costco-esque. Their opening day was a disaster, the interac wasn't working, and the credit card system didn't work in the self checkout area!! Customers were confused and irate. It took me about 15 minutes to checkout!! Their sales were also a disappointment and there was cart gridlock at some intersections!

One of the fancy new things is an electronic lock on the front-right wheel of the carts that will seize up if it goes off the store property. (I wanted to try it, but there were too many people around)
There was less free food than I hoped for, but that was ok since I'm on a combination diet. (Atkins mixed with low-fat and reduced eating, as well as a 2nd progressive mental style diet that hasn't done a thing yet)

The Day After Tomorrow Review

Just saw The Day After Tomorrow. I keep wanting to call it End of Days. The special effects were good, but the story line was embarrassing. Overall 6/10 from me. The IMDB's average at the time of this report was 6.2. Girls under 18 liked it the best. While Men 30+ liked it the least.

Who's Leading in the polls?

According to the National Post it's the conservatives, and according to The Globe and Mail it's the liberals. I tend to believe the good old Globe and Mail (and Iposis-Reid polls) over some crazy guy in the basement at the National Post calling people. And apparently so does the rest of the world.

Boo! the beginning of a new work week. Not looking forward to this week since [work isn't going well at the moment (EDITED/SUGARCOATED Mon Jun 28/04)]. Weekend was fairly busy.
Friday: Laura and Scott Stanley were in town this weekend, hung around @ Sean's drinking.
Saturday: Visited witch's grave, has a rousing alchohol filled time at a downtown bar with an acquaintance.
Sunday: Visited friends' family out of town and saw Kyle & Becky Simpson's brand newly built house in Strathroy.
