London Junior Achievement Stock Market Challenge 2007

I attended the Junior Achievement Stock Market Challenge at the Lamplighter Inn here in London this past Thursday March 8th. I wasn't quite sure what I was getting myself into when I half volunteered to help out (my office, CIBC Wood Gundy London (Larry Myny), was the title sponsor). It was the funnest time I had since my last weblog entry! I was a mock floor trader armed with a PDA and the students (grade 11 and 12) had teams of 4 from all over the Thames Valley District Schoolboard area. I asked to be assigned to my old school (SDCI). They had 5 tables of 10 teams. As it turned out, people noticed that I was a faster than average order enterer (being as that's why I was hired here at Wood Gundy back in the day), so I was being swarmed with people from all over the crystal ballroom. About 300 kids participated. One of the 4 teams that I was the primary floor trader for got 2nd place! One of the 'fancy London schools' took first place (College Avenue, I believe).

I plan to attend next year!

Blurb:
Stock Market Challenge provides an opportunity to learn, firsthand, about the trading floor in a fun-filled, fast-paced setting. It also provides an opportunity to build rapport among team members as well as promote our corporate sponsors and participants. Two separate events were held: high school students participated in the afternoon and the adult teams competed in the evening.
